The City of Launceston RSL Band has claimed the Tasmanian B-Grade brass band championship for 2011!
Under the leadership of conductor David Potter, the band emerged triumphant from the Tasmanian Bands League State Contest held at the new auditorium of the Friends School in Hobart.
The band dedicated its win to life member Peter Lawrence, who passed away early this year.
With wins in all contest sections (Test, Own Choice, Hymn & March) and an overall lead of 16 points, the band is now focused on competing at the 2012 Yamaha National Band Championships in Melbourne at Easter.
The band consists of local musicians from across Launceston who play for the community at local functions and events including Australia Day, Anzac Day and at the Christmas Parade.
Rehearsals are held every Thursday night with David Potter at the band hall in Mowbray. Beginner's classes with Simon Partridge run on Monday afternoons. Any new brass and percussion players, both beginners and advanced, are welcome at any time.
Call Karen Baigent on 6331 2731 or visit the band's website http://goo.gl/asaoH for more information and to join the mailing list for future concerts.
